WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO WITH THE DOOR? — John 10:1-7 Introduction: Verse 6 says “This parable spake Jesus unto them: but they understood not what things they were which He spake unto them.” 1-Explaining—The Shepherd had to come in by the door. What is the door? The Legal Requirements of the Law. The Shepherd had to be a perfect man. 2-Verse 7 “I am the door of the Sheep,” meaning He was God. 3-Verse 8 Men have always tried to by-pass God. 4-Verse 9 “I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture.”
5-The Tabernacle and the Temple both had a Door between the Laver and the Holy Place where the Seven Golden Candlesticks, The table of Shewbread, and the Altar of Incense were placed. The “Door” was a “Curtain” made of “fine linen, blue, purple, and gold: the threefold character of the Lord Jesus.” Blue—Heavenly Purple—Royalty Gold---Deity
I. KICKED THE DOOR—Genesis 4:6,7 Religion Kicks The Door Fundamentally, there are only two ways men believe they are saved: Saved by works (Cain) or Saved by the Blood (Abel). The two are contrasted many times in Scripture. The contrasting of Cain and Abel display the differences between salvation by faith and by works. A-False Religion Produces Differently1-Difference in their Occupation—vs.2 a-Abel was a Shepherd—“A keeper” b-Cain was a Farmer—“A tiller”
2-Difference in their Offerings—vs. 3-4 a-Cain-The Fruit of the Ground b-Abel-The Firstling of the Flock
3-Difference in their Outcome—vs. 4,5 a-Abel Accepted b-Cain Rejected c- Ephesians 2:8-9 “For by grace are ye saved through faith: and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works lest any man should boast.” B-False Religion Produces Destruction—vs. 5-9 1-Begins with Defiance—vs. 5-6 In the Hebrew the same word is used for “sin” and “sin-offering” thus emphasizing the complete identification of the believer’s sin with his sin-offering. Here both meanings are brought together. “Sin Lieth at the door,” but also “a sin offering croucheth at the (tent) door.” Cain was left with a choice and he refused. Cain in a sense KICKED the door. 2-Ends with Death—vs. 8 3-Ends with Dissatisfaction—vs. 16 II. KILLED AT THE DOOR—Judges 19—Procrastination Killed at the Door.
A-Judges 19:22—The “Sons of Belial” wanted to commit Homosexual acts with a man in the house. 1-The Master of the house gave the men “his concubine.” Vs. 25 2-They Abused Her all night until the morning. 3-Vs. 26 The concubine tried to get home and died at the door. 4-Vs. 27 “…her hands were upon the threshold.”
B-She died because of the Compromise of the Master of the House. 1-Master of the Church House---I can’t understand preachers that will not warn people of sin. 2-Master of the Family House—I can’t understand parents that will allow their children to participate in sin. 3-Master of the Physical House---I can’t understand people that will see how far they can play with sin. “Sin will take you farther”
C-Tragedy--- She was KILLED at the Door. she ALMOST made it back---“…her hands were upon the threshold.” “Hands” in the Bible speak of Consecration.
III. KISSED THE DOOR—Judas---Hypocrisy Kisses the Door— Matthew 26:49 “And forthwith he came to Jesus, and said Hail Master; and kissed him.” A-Two words for Master1-Vs. 18—“And he said, Go into the city to such a man, and say unto him, The Master saith, My time is at hand; I will keep the Passover at thy house with my disciples.” The Word Master is “teacher.” 2-Vs. 49—“…master” is “Rabbi” (different word) which is an official title. 3-To the One (vs. 18) He was a teacher, but to Judas, He was just a “title.”
B-Two Different Attitudes1-The Man in Vs. 18—Gave the Lord the room. 2-Judas in Vs. 49—Sold Jesus for personal gain. a-Outwardly—It was only a show b-Secretly—He betrayed the Lord. 3-Eventually—If it is only a show, it will come out in betrayal. People that go back into sin, never were saved. 4-Judas had all the Credentials but he didn’t have Christ. JUDAS KISSED THE DOOR.
Conclusion: In all three passages, they were so close to the door and missed it. Kicked, Killed, and Kissed but all Died Lost, yet so close. |
