THE WILL OF GOD AND GETTING IT DONE
Col 4:12 Epaphras, who is one of you, a servant of Christ, saluteth you, always labouring fervently for you in prayers, that ye may stand perfect and complete in all the will of God.
Introduction: Paul wanted the Saints at Colosse to move into the circle of God’s will and stand there though the heavens fall. Between His will and ours there is not to be a seperating but a blending. Let us look at three matters relative to the will of God and our relationship to it.
I. UNDERSTANDING GOD’S WILL IS OUR PROBLEM
A-God’s will, clearly presented in the Bible, is to be practiced as well as understood by all believers.
1-Paul wanted believers to be “Filled with the knowledge of His will.”Colossians 1:9,10
2-Epaphras prayed that “ye may stand perfect and complete in all the will of God;” Colossians 4:12
B-There is a price to pay to know God’s will.
1-It costs in the seperation from the world. Romans 12:2
2-It costs in the surrender of your life; Rom 12:1
II. UTILIZING GOD’S WILL IS OUR PRIVILEGE
A-We must not only know and understand God’s will, but surrender to it and stand within it.
B-Doing the will of God was the superlative joy of the Saviour; John 8:29; 17:4
C-Doing the will of God is a mark of spirituality in the Christian life.
1-Demas stepped out of God’s will by forsaking the Apostle Paul; II Timothy 4:10
2-Jonah stepped out of God’s will and was brought to a place of Sorrow
III. UNDERCUTTING GOD’S WILL IS OUR PERIL
A-The will of God is never done by thousands of God’s children, and as a result there is much discouragement, disappointment and delusion.
B-The will of God is not done in so many lives because of plain disobedience.
C-Individuals, like Saul, who know God’s will and refuse to do it come to a sad end; I Samuel 28:7, 8; 31: 1-4
D-Many have procrastinated obedience. God wants us to know God’s will and then do it. |
