THE TOUCH OF GOD

Text: Psalms 144:1-8. 5 Bow thy heavens, O LORD, and come down: touch the mountains,  and they shall smoke.

TOUCH THE MOUNTAINS, AND THEY SHALL SMOKE.

It was so when the Lord appeared on Sinai; the strongest pillars of earth cannot bear the weight of the finger of God.

·         He is a consuming fire, and his touch kindles the peaks of the Alps, and makes them smoke.

·         Jehovah would appear, nothing could stand before him; if the mighty mountains smoke at his touch, then all mortal power which is opposed to the Lord must end in smoke.

·         How long suffering he is to his adversaries, whom he could so readily consume. A touch would do it; God's finger of flame would set the hills on fire, and consume opposition of every kind.

When God lays his hand upon great men he makes them smoke or fume, which some understand of their anger; they are presently in a passion, if God do but touch them.

Or we may understand it of their consumption. A smoking mountain will soon be a burnt mountain. In our language, to make a man smoke is a proverbial expression for destroying or subduing.

1-GOD’S TOUCH WILL CONQUER OUR ENEMIES

2-GOD’S TOUCH WILL CALM OUR ANXIETIES

3-GOD’S TOUCH WILL CURE OUR INFIRMITIES

THE TOUCH OF GOD HAS….

I.                   THE POWER TO SAVE AN OLD SINNER

A-Power in the Preaching---1 Cor. 1:21 For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe.

B-Power in the Praying---James 5:16 Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.

C-Power in the Praising---Acts 2:47 Praising God, and having favour with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved

II.                THE PASSION TO STRENGTHEN A DISCOURAGED SAINT

A-Passion in the Preaching

I Corinthians 15:3 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;4 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

1 Corinthians 15:19 If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men most miserable.

B-Passion in the Praying

C-Passion in the Praising

Illustrate: Every time we preach, we should preach w/ passion. Every time with pray, we should pray w/ passion. Every time we praise, we should Praise w/ passion.

III.             THE PRESENCE TO SATISFY A LONELY SOLDIER

A-His Presence will Bring a Song--Psalms 119:52 I remembered thy judgments of old, O LORD; and have comforted myself. 55 I have remembered thy name, O LORD, in the night, and have kept thy law.

·         No doubt the writer would be on the verge of quitting the battle for God, and then Remembrance would help him.

B-His Presence will Bless a Saint---Ask the woman w/ the Issue of Blood.

C-His Presence will Birth a Sinner---Ask the Maniac of Gadara.
