THE PRAYER REQUESTS OF JESUS---MATTHEW 9: 36–38

Growing up in church I have heard probably millions of prayer requests, like most of us have. 

I remember several instances where prayer requests were made:

1-At a church in the Mountains of NC, a lady stood and requested prayer for a man named JR that had been shot. She said that the police and investigators needed prayer to find who shot him. (She failed to separate reality from TV.)

2- Bro. Tracy Trivette, a preacher friend of mine from Chattanooga told of a

Man that requested prayer and said….“Pray for us, a storm came through and knocked a tree down.  It just missed us and destroyed my neighbor’s trailer.  We are so shook up over it.  Pray that we will be ok.”  Oh by the way, pray for his neighbor!

3-Many will pray for their children to be healed of diseases, and never pray for their Salvation.

We could go on all day with stories such as these.  But have you ever wondered what the prayer life, or prayer requests of our Lord Jesus would be? 

Throughout the Bible we have many instances of Jesus praying.  In almost all the instances we know what He prayed.  But in this portion of scripture we have an interesting prayer request from Jesus. 

NOTICE THREE THINGS.

I. THE IMPORTANCE OF THE HARVEST-The harvest truly is plenteous

A-Sinners that Need Jesus (Salvation)

            B-Soldiers that Need Jesus (Service)

            C-Saints that Need Jesus (Security)

II. THE INSUFFICIENCY OF THE HELP---“the laborers are few”

            A-God Doesn’t Call the Qualified—He Qualifies the Called

            B-God Isn’t Looking for Ability---He is looking for Availability

            C- The problem is the workers work harder to get past or around the

harvest than they do to work in the harvest. 

III. THE INSIGHT OF THE HOLY ONE!---“Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he will send forth laborers into his harvest.”

A-His Concern For the Harvest

            B-His Cheer For the Harvest

            C-His Certainty For the Harvest

Conclusion:  He is not only encouraging me and you to pray about the harvest but He is praying for it!  The LORD of the Harvest is praying to HIMSELF!!! 

He is concerned about the Harvest!  His insight or thoughts is on the Harvest! 

He is still concerned about souls!  Remember, that is why He came “to seek and save that which was lost” and He is still in that business!

He is still concerned about the harvest and is still wanting the same from you and I.  Do you think that if the Lord is concerned enough about the harvest to put it on His prayer list, that it should concern us? 

Not only pray for the Harvest and for our Fellow Workers, but GET BUSY!  Don’t set around on your blessed assurance talking about how bad things are,

GET BUSY FOR JESUS!  THERE IS STILL AN IMPORTANT HARVEST!

GOD HELP THE INSUFFICIENCY OF THE HELP!
