THE DECEITFULNESS OF SIN--Heb 3:12-13 There are some situations when we allow ourselves to be deceived
1. When we watch a someone perform a sleight of hand trick designed to startle and amaze us. 2. When someone conceals a present or surprise from us until it is time for us to receive it
But very seldom do we find it enjoyable to be deceived 1. We want people to be honest with us--to tell us the truth 2. When something is happening if others are trying to conceal the truth from us, we get very upset. 3. We hate it when people deliberately deceive us. We are going to talk today about the worst deceitfulness of all, the deceitfulness of sin!

B. ITS PROMISES ARE DEADLY "But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed. Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death."(Jas. 1:14-15).
a. Sin’s Choice – "But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed." b. Sin’s Conception – "Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin" c. Sin’s Continuance – "and sin, when it is finished" d. Sin’s Consequence – "bringeth forth death." For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting. II. DECEITFUL IN IT’S PRESENTATION

How do we protect ourselves from sin? We are to "Lay aside every weight and the sin which doth so easily beset us" (Heb 12:1). We must "Abhor that which is evil, cleave to that which is good" (Rom 12:9). We are not to be "conformed to this world, but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind" (Rom 12:2). How do we renew our mind to protect ourselves from sin? "Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against God" (Ps 119:11). And then we must "Be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves" (James 1:22), Don’t be deceived ! |
