SICK BEYOND SAVING Isaiah 1:6 1-No Soundness—Salvation is translated from 5 different words: deliverance, safety, preservation, healing and soundness. God is saying “There is no Salvation in it.” Diseased beyond Deliverance. Illustrate: How many times have I seen people die because of many things wrong with them. The doctor is not able to treat one sickness because of another sickness and the patient is overwhelmed by complications. 2-Most commentators believe this sermon was preached in the reign of Ahaz, when Judah was invaded by the kings of Syria and Israel, the Edomites and the Philistines, who slew many, and carried many away into captivity. (II Chronicles 28:5, 17, 18) I. WHEN THE CRIB IS DISREGARDED—vs. 3A-Instinct 1-I remember seeing some old farmers beat the feed bucket and every animal on the farm would come running. 2-We ought to be like that about God’s Word, and the Church. B-Ignorance---“…but Israel doth not know”—To know by observation. They haven’t seen God. Their religion is so dead, it’s become a form or fad. THEY LOOK UPON OLD TIME RELIGION AS “FANATICISM”, OR “EXTREMISM.” C-Insight---“…my people doth not consider” (Don’t know how to distinguish, or discern.) 1-God is not even brought into the equation. What does the Bible say about this? a-They don’t read their Bible. (How many times have you read it this week?) (How many times did you have Family Altar this week?) b-They don’t apply the Preaching-Sometimes I even wonder if anybody ever listens to anything that I say. It is kind of like pouring water over a duck’s back. c-They didn’t consult the Preacher- People will take everybody’s advice except the Preacher’s. 2-They don’t know, and they don’t care. They are not Sensitive to the Scriptures or shamed by their sin. 3-Some medicines counteract each other. The world is trying to take a dose of Scripture, and a dose of Wickedness, and they counteract.
II. WHEN CORRUPTION IS THEIR DEEDS---vs. 4A-Sinful—Missed the mark and leading many astray. B-Iniquity---Perverse, twisted. C-Evildoers---To spoil by breaking to pieces. Churches are being torn to pieces, Marriages, Children and it’s being portrayed as the “Norm.” When girls can “Shack Up” and move their boyfriends into their home, it’s ripping the Biblical Home to pieces. D-Forsakers—To loosen, relinquish, and permit. We are losing the battle by forfeiture. Where is the righteous indignation? Who’ll fight for right? E-Provokers---To Scorn or Blaspheme—What right does God have telling me what to do? Who does that preacher think he is, pointing out my sin? F-Backward—Hinder Part—Go as far from God as they could. Deserters. III. WHEN CORRECTION IS DESPISED---vs. 5 “Why should ye be stricken anymore? Ye will revolt more and more.”A-God removes the Correction1-God will take away the Minister 2-God will take away the Message (Revolt means to apostasize)—They’ll not only get a “liberal preacher” they’ll get a “liberal bible” 3-Is God removing the Correction in America? I say Yes. B-God Removes the Cure—vs.6---NO SOUNDNESS C-God Reveals their Condition—vs. 6 1-Wounds—to split 2-Bruises—Black and Blue Marks caused by stripes. 3-Sores—Pestilences resulting from Wounds unattended. 4-Putrifying—Dripping, running, Sores. The whole body is fevered and sick. D-God Reveals their Coldness—vs. 6 1-Closed—Pressed together 2-Bound Up—Haven’t been wrapped 3-Mollified—Softened 4-Ointment—Grease from the Olive Tree. IV. WHEN THE COUNTRY IS DESOLATE---vs. 7-8A-Destroyed by Strangers—vs. 7 B-Destroyed by Strangulation—vs. 8
Conclusion: Only answer—Vs. 9—“The very small remnant”
1-The Remnant in that Day was Abraham and Lot. 2-Abraham was the Intercessor. If our country depended on your prayer life, would we be spared? How many praying people do you know? 3-If our country depended on your Godly life, would we be spared? How many Godly people do you know? 4-The Remnant was not just “saved people,” but they were righteous people who were Praying. |
