“SEEKING THE LIVING GOD”-Isaiah 8:18-22 

Introduction:  The unbelieving Jews were prone to seek counsel in difficulties, from diviners of different descriptions.  Would we know how we may seek to our God, and come to the knowledge of his mind? To those that seek to familiar spirits, and regard not God's law and testimony, there shall be horror and misery.

We need to seek god and turn from our own fleshly desires.  And desire spiritual things. We need to demonstrate our love for God by visiting with the family of God at church.

I.                  SEEKING GOD AND HIS LAW IS THE KEY TO SUCCESS

A.   Matthew 6:33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

B.    II Chronicles 31:20 And thus did Hezekiah throughout all Judah, and wrought that  which was good and right and truth before the LORD his God. 21 And in every work that he  began in the service of the house of God, and in the law, and in the commandments, to seek his God, he did it with all his heart, and prospered.

II.SEEKING GOD’S WORD IS THE DOOR TO GOD’S WILL

A.   Isaiah 34:16 Seek ye out of the book of the LORD, and read: no one of these shall fail, none shall want her mate: for my mouth it hath commanded, and his spirit it hath gathered them.

B.    Romans 15:4 For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope.

III.SEEKING GOD FOR THE LIVING WILL OPEN THAT DOOR

A.     Colossians 4:2 Continue in prayer, and watch in the same with  thanksgiving; 3 Withal  praying also for us, that God would open unto us a door of utterance, to speak the mystery  of Christ, for which I  am also in bonds:4 That I may make it manifest, as I ought to speak.

B.    Acts 16:25 And at midnight Paul and Silas prayed, and sang praises unto God: and the prisoners heard them. 26 And suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the  foundations of the prison were  shaken: and immediately all the  doors were opened, and every one's bands were loosed.

 IV.SEEKING GOD TO THE DEAD WILL PAY OFF AT THE JUDGEMENT

A.   Mark 9:41 For whosoever shall give you a cup of water to drink in my name, because ye belong  to Christ, verily I say unto you, he shall not lose his reward.

B.    Ephesians 2:1 And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins:

C.   II Corinthians 5:10 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad. 11 Knowing therefore the terror of the Lord, we persuade men; but we are made manifest unto God; and I trust also are made manifest in your consciences.

V.SEEKING A LIVING GOD

  A-Psalms 105:4 Seek the LORD, and his strength: seek his face

evermore.

    B-Isaiah 55:6 Seek ye the LORD while he may be found, call ye upon

    him while he is near:

C-Hosea 10:12 Sow to yourselves in righteousness, reap in mercy; break up  your fallow ground: for it is time to seek the LORD, till he  come and rain righteousness upon you.

D-John 12:21 The same came therefore to Philip, which was of Bethsaida of  Galilee, and desired him, saying, Sir, we would see Jesus. 22 Philip cometh and telleth Andrew: and again Andrew and Philip tell Jesus. 23 And Jesus answered them, saying, The hour is come, that the Son of man should be glorified.
