“SOUL-WINNING:  THE QUALIFICATIONS”

Text: Matthew 4:19  “And he saith unto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.”

Introduction-We spoke last week of the Commission of the church being winning souls.  We spoke of being trained by Christ in winning souls. Also, we spoke of how that winning souls displays the highest wisdom, and that it should surpass any other duty in a Christian’s life.  Then we said, if you are not winning souls, you are not fulfilling your duty as a child of God.  The Results of Winning souls will show a steady and consistent growth in our church.  Tonight, we will speak of the soul winner’s qualifications.

I. THE SOUL WINNER MUST HIMSELF HAVE THE ASSURANCE OF SALVATION

A-John 5:24 “Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.”

B-John 9:25 “He answered and said, Whether he be a sinner or no, I know not: one thing I know, that, whereas I was blind, now I see.

C-Romans 8:16 “The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God”

D-II Corinthians 5:17 “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.”

II. THE SOUL WINNER MUST LEAD A HOLY LIFE

A-II Timothy 2:21 “If a man therefore purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honour, sanctified, and meet for the master's use, and prepared unto every good work.”

B-II Timothy 2:4 “No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this life; that he may please him who hath chosen him to be a soldier.”
 

               III.             THE SOUL WINNER MUST BE A MAN OF PRAYER

A-Acts 10:9 “On the morrow, as they went on their journey, and drew nigh unto the city, Peter went up upon the housetop to pray about the sixth hour:”

B-I Sam. 1:27“For this child I prayed; and the LORD hath given me my petition which I asked of him:”

C-Mark 11:24 “Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.

IV.              THE SOUL WINNER MUST WORK IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THE HOLY SPIRIT

A-Psalms 143:10 “Teach me to do thy will; for thou art my God: thy spirit is good; lead me into the land of uprightness.”

B-Romans 8:14 “For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.”
 

V.                 THE SOUL WINNER MUST KNOW HOW TO WIELD THE SWORD OF THE SPIRIT

A-Eph.  6:17 “And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:

B-II Timothy 2:15 “Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

C-FOUR THINGS ABOUT THE BIBLE THAT EVERY CHRISTIAN SHOULD KNOW:

1.      How to use the Bible so as to show others their need of a Saviour.

2.      How to use the Bible so as to show others that Jesus Christ is just the Saviour they need.

3.      How to use the Bible so as to show  them how to make this Saviour their own Saviour.

4.      How to use the Bible to meet all the difficulties that stand between the inquiring mind and Jesus Christ.

Conclusion: Do you meet these qualifications? If not, then ask the Lord to help you to be a better Christian. If so, are you winning souls for Christ? If you are,  then you need to thank the Lord for allowing you to win some souls into the family of God. Are your children in God’s family? If they are not, are you doing all that you can to get them Saved? If so, then you need to Thank God that they are Saved.

Be a soul winner for Jesus.
