"LOOSE HIM AND LET HIM GO!"--John 11:41 - 45
Notice the Lord's first command to His disciples after Lazarus' resurrection in verse 45, "Loose Him and Let Him Go!"
The bodies of the dead were not clothed in those days as we clothe the dead today. Bodies were wrapped with strips of linen and soaked with perfume. The Jews didn’t embalm when death occurred, so the body was wrapped quickly and carried immediately to the grave.
The perfume lessened the odor, but that only lasted for a few days! (v. 39) "four days"
I'm glad our Lord rose the THIRD DAY!
The fact that Lazarus was wrapped up meant it would be nearly impossible for him to walk. He would also have difficulty breathing due to the napkin being wrapped over his face.
Christ said, "Loose him!" He gave him freedom! This refutes the evil accusation that Christians are so restricted that we cannot have joy in life.
It was SIN that bound Lazarus! (Romans 6:23) But, it was CHRIST who set him free! (John 8:36)
Christ did not say to take off the grave clothes, but only to loose him! Why? Lazarus needed to go home and put some other clothes on!
Taking off the grave clothes would make him naked, and our Lord does NOT approve of nakedness! (Revelation 3:18)
