HOW SATAN ATTACKS GOD’S PEOPLE---Luke 4:1-13
This is the account of Christ’s temptation in the Wilderness.
1-A very important point—It is not a sin to be tempted—If so, then the Lord committed a sin and we know that is not so.
2-We have here a pattern of how Satan attacks God’s people.
3-I Peter 5:8 “…your adversary, the devil.” That means that he is the opponent of the people of God.
4-As our opponent, his main purpose is to defeat the people of God.
5-Now the Question is, How does he attack the people of God?
I. HIS TACTICS
A-TO DECEIVE (As a Serpent)
1-Eve (Gen. 3:1-7) CONCERNING THE WORD OF GOD
a-Satan’s first Attack was the Word of God
b-He openly defies the Word of God (Gen. 3:4)
c-Satan’s plan Attack on the Word of God is two-fold 1-DOUBTS the VALIDITY of God’s Word 2-DEFIES the VALUE of God’s Word
2-Christ (Lk 4:1-13) CONCERNING THE WILL OF GOD
a-Vs. 3, 4 Satan wanted Jesus to use His divine powers to meet his own needs outside God’s Will.
b-Vs. 5-8 Satan tempted Christ by offering Him an escape from the Cross.
c-Vs. 9-12 Satan wanted Jesus to test the parameters of God’s will by jumping off the temple.
B-TO DEFEAT (As a Foe) Ephesians 6:12
C-TO DESTROY (As a Lion) I Peter 5:8 II. HIS TIMING—vs. 1, 2
A-When we are FULFILLING THE WILL OF GOD. (Jesus was led into the Wilderness)
B-When we are FAINT AND WEAK (vs 2-He afterward hungered)
C-When we are Alone (vs 1, 2)
1-It was when Eve was alone that she was tempted.
2-It was when David was alone that he was tempted to sin with Bathsheba.
3-It was when Jesus was alone that Satan tempted him.
III. OUR TRIUMPH—vs. 1-12
A-By Being FILLED With The SPIRIT (vs. 1)
B-By Being FAMILIAR With The SCRIPTURES (vs. 4, 8, 12) |
