DON'T EXPECT THE IMPOSSIBLE Matthew 7:13-20
Introduction: The sermon on the mount is known by every Christian. It is the teachings, & principles that will be in effect during the millennial reign.
A great number of sermons have been preached from these three chapters.
There is more sermon material here than any preacher could preach in an entire lifetime.
Jesus is saying in verse 16, "Don't expect the impossible."
In other words there are certain things that won't happen.
Here are some things that can't be done.
You won't gather grapes from thorns or figs from thistles. Don't expect that to happen. It is impossible.
This same principle is true in practically every facet of our lives today. So look with me if you will at these few things.
I. Don't Expect The Impossible From Your Church
A. Your Pastor 1. He is human-not supernatural. 2. He will make mistakes. B. Your Leadership 1. Not infallible. 2. Will fail you at times. C. The Membership 1. Some are Drones: Parasites, Loafers, Dead Weight, Along for the ride 2. Some are hypocrites: Holy Joe or Willie, Wolf in Sheep’s clothing 3. Some are unsaved. 4. Some may not mature spiritually as fast as you have.
II. Don't Expect the Impossible From Your Friends
A. Friendship should be valued highly. B. Friendship will be strained by selfishness or taking advantage. C. Don't expect friend to assume your responsibilities. D. Don't expect friends to be your spiritual leaders.
Spiritual Leadership must come from inside the home or the church.
III. Don't Expect The Impossible From Your Children
A. They will be what you raise them to be. B. Don't expect roses if you raise weeds. C. Don't expect them to be different from other children. D. Don't expect them to mature too fast. E. Don't expect them to be "little kids" all their life. 1. Allow them to grow up.
IV. Don't Expect The impossible From The Lord
A. A Lost Person Won't Go To Heaven.
B. Don't expect God to bless a sinful Christian.
C. Don't expect God to do for you what you can do for yourself.
D. Don't expect a life free of hardships.
· II Tim. 3:12 Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution.
E. Don't expect the Lord to be a respector of persons.
V. Don't Expect The Impossible From Yourself
A. You will make mistakes. B. You will have failures and setbacks. C. Don't allow guilt feelings to defeat you. D. Most everyone places themselves on too high of a level. E. Remember you still have a sinful nature. 1. The flesh is weak. 2. Temptation will come.
Conclusion: God can transform your life. 1. Lost person-repent and believe. 2. Christians-confess and get busy for God. |
