DANGER IN PLENTY

Deuteronomy 6:10-12 Key verse 12     II Peter 3:17-18 Key verse 17

It is often most difficult to follow God when life is easy---We can fall prey to temptation and fall away from God. Here are some notable examples of this truth….

I.                    FOR ADAM (Genesis 3) Adam lived in a perfect world and had a perfect relationship with God. His needs were met, He had everything. But He fell to Satan’s Deception. ADAM’S SIN WAS A THREE FOLD STEP JUST AS SIN IS FOR US TODAY…

A-LUST—The fruit looked good to Eve and Adam (Genesis 3:6b)

B-SIN---He partook of the fruit (Genesis 3:6d)

C-DEATH--(Genesis 5:5)

D-Death was passed upon all men because of Adam’s Sin.

Romans  5:12 Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the

world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that

     all have sinned:

II.                FOR NOAH (Genesis  9) Noah and his family had survived the flood and the whole world was theirs. They were prosperous, and life was easy. Noah shamed himself by becoming drunk and cursed his son Ham.

A-Planted a Vineyard (Genesis 9:20)

B-Became Drunk (Genesis 9:21a)

C-Nakedness Uncovered (Genesis 9:21b)

D-Cursed the Son that saw Him and did not cover him (Gen 9:25)

III.             FOR THE NATION OF ISRAEL (Judges 2) God had given Israel the Promised Land---rest at last with no more wandering. But as soon as brave and faithful Joshua died, they fell into the idolatrous practices of the Canaanites.

A-The Generation that followed Joshua’s Death Had learned nothing from their forefathers (Judges 2:10-17)

B-Because of their disobedience the Lord Raised up Judges and the Lord was with the Judges (Judges 2:18-19)

C-God became angry because of Israel’s rebellion (Judges 2:20-23)

IV.              FOR DAVID (II Samuel 11) David ruled well, and Israel was a dominant nation, politically, economically, and militarily. In the midst of prosperity and success, he committed adultery with Bathsheba and had her husband Uriah murdered.

A-Instead of Going, David sent someone else—II Samuel 11:1

B-David sinned with Bathsheba—II Samuel 11:4

C-David attempted to cover his sin—II Samuel 11:6-13 His plan was foiled because Uriah did not wish to be unjust to those in Battle.

D-When He could not cover his sin, He desired to have Uriah killed

    II Samuel 11:14-17

E-One thing led to another, and the sword never left David’s House.

V.                 FOR SOLOMON (I Kings 11) Solomon truly had it all: Power, wealth, fame, and wisdom. But his very abundance was the source of his downfall. He loved his pagan, idolatrous wives so much that he allowed himself and Israel to copy their detestable religious rites.

A-I Kings 11:1-4 When he was old His wives turned his heart away after other gods.

B-I Kings 11:6-13 Solomon did evil in the sight of the Lord.

C-Note that Solomon did not turn away from God all at once. His spiritual coldness began with a minor departure from God’s law.

(I Kings 3:1)

D-Sin will grow til it results in your downfall.

·         Not one alcoholic started out with the intent to drink themselves to death.

·         Not one addicted drug user started out with the intent to kill themselves by overdose.

·         Not one person in Hell intended to be there.

Conclusion—There is danger in plenty for those who choose to rebel against God. There is judgement awaiting that one who thinks he/she is gonna get by. God loves you, but God desires for you to admit the sin which you have committed. God desires for you to repent of that sin. God desires for you to allow Him to forgive you of that sin, but as long as you are covering that sin, He cannot forgive it. Why not admit that hidden sin in your heart, and ask God to remove it from your life? It may be a sin of omission. It may be a sin of pride, or self-will. Why not get forgiveness of it tonight?
