BUILDING ON THE ROCK OF AGES--Luke 6:43-49
Verse 37-49 All these sayings Christ often used; it was easy to apply them.
We ought to be very careful when we blame others; for we need allowance ourselves. If we are of a giving and a forgiving spirit, we shall ourselves reap the benefit. · Those who follow the multitude to do evil, follow in the broad way that leads to destruction. The tree is known by its fruits; may the word of Christ be so grafted in our hearts, that we may be fruitful in every good word and work.
· Those only make sure work for their souls and eternity, and take the course that will profit in a trying time, who think, speak, and act according to the words of Christ.
· Those who take pains in religion, found their hope upon Christ, who is the Rock of Ages, and other foundation can no man lay. In death and judgment they are safe, being kept by the power of Christ through faith unto salvation, and they shall never perish.
I. WILL YOUR FOUNDATION SECURE THE BUILDING? · SAND will wash away when the storms come, and cause your building to fall. (Matt. 7:26-And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand: 27 And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it.) · Good works · Religion without Salvation · Masonic Lodge, Ladies Auxiliary, Promise Keepers
· ROCKS will remain in tact during a storm, and will help the building to stand the test of time. (Matt. 7:24 Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock: 25 And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock.) · Jesus’ Blood is a Secure Foundation. · The King James Bible is a Secure Foundation · Repentance is a Secure Foundation
II. ARE THERE FLOODS IN YOUR LIFE? (Luke 6:48) · STORMS—Problems or trials that are placed in your life to test your STRENGTH in service for the Lord. · Sickness—Cancers, Strokes, Heart Problems
· Sorrow—Family Member Dies, or Decides to take another direction (Separation, or Divorce)
· Struggles—Emotional, Financial, Spiritual
· RIVERS—Constant flow of the Holy Ghost in you and through you. John 7:38 He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water. · Your Testimony · Your Works · Your Witness
III. WHAT CAUSES A SPIRITUAL BUILDING TO FALL? · Not Having the Right Foundation-- I Cor. 3:11 For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ. · Not Having the Right Builder--Psalms 127:1 A Song of degrees for Solomon. Except the LORD build the house, they labour in vain that build it: except the LORD keep the city, the watchman waketh but in vain. · Not Having the Right Material to Build with—Eph. 2:8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: 9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.
Conclusion: Will your building stand the test of time? Will it stand the storms of life? Are you building on the right foundation? Are you using the right material? If not, come and ask the Lord to lay the foundation that is needed for you to build upon. Pray and ask the Lord for Help in this troubled time that we are living in. God bless you and keep you in His care. |
