The Great Inventor, Thomas Edison said the following about his mother: "I did not have my mother long, but she cast over me a good influence that lasted all my life. The good effects of her early training I can never lose. If it had not been for her appreciation and her faith in me at a very criticial time in my experience, I would never likely have become an inventor. I was always a careless boy, and with a mother of different mental caliber, I would have turned out badly. But her firmness, her sweetness, her goodness, were potent powers to keep me on the right path. My mother was the making of me. The memory of her will always be a blessing to me" (Inventor: Thomas Edison).
An Important Goal For A Mother
Text: Exodus 2:1-11
Think with me about Jochebed, who was the true mother of Moses. The name "Jochebed" means "the glory of Jehovah or Jehovah is our glory." She has quite a distinction in that she is the first person in the Bible to have a name compounded with Jah or Jehovah. Literally her name was , "God her glory." What was her aim in life? It was to give herself to glorify God and raise a godly seed. One thing is sure, just because a mother lives a godly life does not guarantee that her children will be godly as they live their own lives. The world, the flesh, and the devil seek constantly to draw them away from God and into sin. There is no question in my own mind that she was the kind of mother who wanted her children to love and serve the True and Living God. So many mothers just want to raise their children to make money and be popular in the eyes of this present evil world system. A godly mother’s goal should be much more noble and spiritual than those around her who are unconverted
I. THE IMPACT OF A GODLY LIFE.
I believe that is clearly seen in her three famous and godly children. A mother does not waste her time when she takes time to be holy. God uses what her children see in her, to help make the children what they are going to be. Consider her three children or the impact a godly life made. First, there was Moses, who became one of the greatest of the leaders among the Jewish people. Secondly, there was Aaron, who was the first high priest in Israel and the main person in the Aaronic priesthood. Then also there is Miriam, who was a gifted poet and music composer. She is famous in the history of the nation of Israel. II. THE INTELLIGENCE OF A GODLY LIFE
Some of the wisest people on the earth are God’s people, because He gifts them with wisdom that only comes from above (James 1:5). That wisdom she has was seen when she placed baby Moses among the bulrushes in the waters of Nile River. She knew the time that Pharaoh’s daughter would come to the Nile to bathe and at that proper time might find and take Moses.
III. THE INVOLVEMENT OF A GODLY LIFE
Since Jochebed honored and loved God, He worked things out for her to be the nurse for her own son Moses. Not only was Moses saved but His own mother was paid by Pharaoh’s daughter to care for him until he was weaned. |
