A FOUR-FOLD MESSAGE: THE GOSPEL 1 JOHN 1:5

I. THE MESSAGE FROM THE TREE “It is finished.”--John 19:30 When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost

 A. WE HAVE THE WORK OF GOD---John 4:34 Jesus saith unto them, My meat is to do the will of him that sent me, and to finish his work. John 17:4 I have glorified thee on the earth: I have finished the work which thou gavest me to do.

B. WHAT WAS THAT WORK?--John 10:11 I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep. Rom 5:6-8 For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly.  For scarcely for a righteous man will one die: yet peradventure for a good man some would even dare to die.  But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

II. THE MESSAGE FROM THE TOMB  “He is risen.”--Matt 28:6   He is not here: for he is risen, as he said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay.

A.WE HAVE THE WISDOM OF GOD. 1 Cor 2:7-8 But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, even the hidden wisdom, which God ordained before the world unto our glory:  Which none of the princes of this world knew: for had they known it, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.

B. HE WAS RAISED FOR OUR:

 1. JUSTIFICATION--Rom 4:24-25... Jesus our Lord ... Who was delivered for our offences, and was raised again for our justification. Rom 5:1--Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:

Rom 5:18 Therefore as by the offence of one judgment came upon all men to condemnation; even so by the righteousness of one the free gift came upon all men unto justification of life.

2. SANCTIFICATION--1 Cor 6:11 And such were some of you:  [fornicators,

idolaters, adulterers, thieves, covetous, drunkards, revilers, extortioners]  but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God.

 3. GLORIFICATION---Eph 2:6-7 And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus:  That in the ages to come he might shew the exceeding riches of his grace in his kindness toward us through Christ Jesus.

III. THE MESSAGE FROM THE THRONE  “He is worthy.”---Rev 5:9 And they sung a new song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the book, and to open the seals thereof: for thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by thy blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation;

Rev 4:11 Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created.

THE WORSHIP OF GOD.  HE IS WORTHY OF OUR WORSHIP. Rev 4:10 The four and twenty elders fall down before him that sat on the throne, and worship him that liveth for ever and ever, and cast their crowns before the throne, Rev 14:7 Saying with a loud voice, Fear God, and give glory to him; for the hour of his judgment is come: and worship him that made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and the fountains of waters.

IV.  THE MESSAGE FROM THE TABLE  “He is coming.” 1 Cor 11:26 For as often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do shew the Lord's death till he come.

A.WE HAVE THE WARNING OF GOD--Matt 24:44 Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh.

B. BELOVED, HE IS COMING:

1. SUDDENLY --1 Cor 15:51-52  Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed,  52 In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.

 2. SECRETLY--1 Thess 4:17 Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.

3. SELECTIVELY--1 Cor. 15:23 But every man in his own order: Christ the firstfruits; afterward they that are Christ's at his coming.

Close: Israel’s parliament voted to move Israel’s capital to Jerusalem.  Do you realize this could mean:   To the Egyptians – the disruption of their peace talks.

To the Arabs – an act of hostility

To the Moslems – “Jihad” A Holy War against the Jews.

To the United Nations – eventual Armageddon!

Listen: Zech 14:1-2a Behold, the day of the LORD cometh, and thy spoil shall be divided in the midst of thee.  For I will gather all nations against Jerusalem to battle;…

Beloved, we must be only moments away from our Lord’s return for His own.
